Uma tecnologia voltada inicialmente à aplicação de biodefensivos para o controle biológico de pragas agrícolas poderá ser usada no ambiente urbano para ajudar a frear a proliferação de mosquitos transmissores de vírus causadores de doenças, como o Aedes aegypti.
Desenvolvida pela empresa Birdview, situada em São Manuel, no interior paulista, em colaboração com a Embrapa Instrumentação, a solução despertou o interesse de empresas produtoras de Aedes aegypti estéreis no Brasil para ajudar na erradicação de doenças como dengue, febre amarela, chikungunya e zika. O projeto teve apoio do Programa Fapesp Pesquisa Inovativa em Pequenas Empresas (Pipe).
“Ao participar da última edição do Programa de Treinamento em Empreendedorismo de Alta Tecnologia [Pipe Empreendedor] identificamos algumas empresas produtoras de Aedes aegypti estéreis interessadas em firmar parceria conosco para fazer a soltura do inseto em áreas urbanas”, conta Ricardo Machado, cofundador da startup.
A tecnologia desenvolvida pela empresa no âmbito do Programa Biota-Fapesp consiste em um sistema modular de liberação e embalagem, integrado a drones, que efetua a soltura controlada de insetos adultos em regiões demarcadas, minimizando danos e estresses induzidos.
No campo, a tecnologia permite liberar, sobre as lavouras, insetos para combater pragas agrícolas que são seus inimigos naturais. Já em áreas urbanas, a solução poderá ser empregada para soltar Aedes aegypti machos e estéreis para se acasalar com mosquitos fêmeas – que picam e transmitem vírus causadores de doenças e copulam uma vez na vida. Dessa forma, é possível diminuir a população do inseto, estimam especialistas.
Em oito anos de atuação, a empresa já realizou mais de 15 mil voos para a liberação de biodefensivos, em mais de 1 milhão de hectares. Entre seus clientes estão as usinas São Martinho, São Manuel e a Suzano.
O projeto de liberação de mosquitos ainda é experimental e a empresa tenta fechar parceria com criadores de insetos estéreis, que arcariam com os custos do serviço. Os valores e o tempo necessário para a intervenção surtir efeito estão sendo avaliados.
“A solução também pode ser utilizada para lançar sementes visando a restauração de florestas”, afirma Machado.
Pipe Empreendedor
A empresa Birdview foi uma das participantes da 25ª edição do Programa de Treinamento em Empreendedorismo de Alta Tecnologia (Pipe Empreendedor).
Os resultados da validação tecnológica e de negócios obtidos durante as 12 semanas de duração da capacitação tecnológica atingidos por ela e outras 20 empresas participantes foram apresentados em evento realizado em dezembro na Fapesp.
Um dos principais objetivos do Pipe Empreendedor é estimular a aproximação da universidade com o mercado. Para isso, na avaliação de Cátia Favale, coordenadora do programa, é imprescindível que as startups participantes validem o projeto com uma modelagem atraente para o mercado.
“Queremos transformar esforços em negócios em que todos possam ganhar com a maior arrecadação de impostos, geração de trabalho, renda e mais desenvolvimento econômico e social”, disse.
“Hoje, o Pipe Empreendedor é considerado um dos principais programas de capacitação para geração de negócios em São Paulo, pela formação dos seus coordenadores, acompanhamento das mentorias, abordagem e metodologia”, sublinhou Anapatrícia Morales Vilha, membro da Coordenação Adjunta de Pesquisa para Inovação da Fapesp.
